Last night my computer received an update that led to the screen freezing after launching Windows 7. Restoring from a backup by pressing F8 at startup resolved the problem. I then attempted a manual installation of just four updates, as there were about 190 pending. This included two 2018 updates, a NET Framework 4 update, and a SP1 update. Afterward, the PC shut down completely, failed to set up Windows, and stopped booting entirely—only a flashing underscore appeared on the screen. Now I have a fresh Windows 7 Home installation with all drivers in place, but I’m hesitant about enabling updates since some programs and games require them. Here are my system details: CPU – Intel i5 7500, GPU – Gigabyte GTX 1050 ti, RAM – 4GB DDR4 at 2400Mhz, Storage – 120GB SSD plus a 1TB Western Digital drive, Motherboard – Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H, OS – Windows 7 Home on SSD. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
