My computer originally came with Windows 7 and I have the product key. After upgrading to Windows 10 during a free upgrade, I'm trying to reinstall and figure out how to activate it again. I don't have the license key for the Windows 10 version.

If it came with it, it’s likely an OEM product. They automatically activate by inserting the key onto your sticker to obtain a downloadable ISO. If you can’t retrieve the key, use this VB script: pk.vbs. The file isn’t intended for key theft, so don’t misuse it.

@Mornincupofhate and if it fails, type your Windows 7 product key during setup. It should work. Be sure to choose the correct Windows version. W7 Home for W10 Home. W7 Pro for W10 Pro

It starts automatically and keeps track of the motherboard it was placed on. For added security, follow the guidance at the provided link.

Ten keys are saved in the BIOS. After reinstalling, it will automatically turn them back on. If they don’t activate, your 7 Key works because it gets converted during the upgrade. But this usually only happens a few times.

To verify your Windows setup, open the Settings menu and navigate to About. Look for your product key and registration confirmation at the bottom of the screen.
