Updating the software on your previous smartphone device
Hi everyone, I’ve been curious about running different operating systems on older Android phones. I own a Samsung Galaxy A7 from 2016 and was hoping to explore alternatives beyond pure OS or Ubuntu Touch. While I’ve tried PureOS, Jing OS, and others, I’m unsure if anyone has successfully tested these on my device without risking damage. Any tips or experiences you have would be greatly appreciated!
This process carries some risk, yet most tutorials will guide you through setting up a custom recovery tool for data restoration after a failed installation. It's secure enough, though I wouldn't suggest using it on essential devices. Before updating your ROM, experiment with root privileges—it unlocks many features you wouldn’t normally access.
These Linux-based distros offer minimal mobile device compatibility. Your phone isn’t compatible with any of these systems. I don’t think they’re ready for daily use—they’re mainly for testing and development. Still, your phone works with LineageOS, a tailored Android version. I suggest it. https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/a7xelte/ If the installation guide is missing or blocked, your device may be locked. Check XDA Forums for solutions specific to your model. Relying on Google services like the Play Store requires a Google Apps image or MicroG. MicroG is an alternative to Google Services but may not work perfectly. The easiest option is using one of MicroG’s LineageOS builds, such as https://download.lineage.microg.org/a7xelte/. Using it often results in a soft brick rather than a hard brick; if that happens, simply re-flash the system or recovery image.
