Sure, I can help with that. You should check your system settings to ensure Windows Update is turned off. Also, verify that the "Manual" option isn't accidentally selected in the Services app. If you're still unsure, restart your computer or contact your IT support for further assistance.

Press the Windows key + R to open the command prompt. Type services.msc and press Enter. Look for Windows Update. Right-click it and choose Properties. On the General tab, change Startup type to Disabled. Click Stop, then Apply and OK. Restart your computer.

Not a virus. Manual means the app won't run automatically. If you want an update, right-click Start, select "u", pick update, and follow the prompts. If your taskbar search bar is off, try typing "update" again. Edited October 9, 2022 by Thomas4 Unnecessary details provided.

You're disabling notifications because keeping your system updated is important for using apps and games properly.

What concerns you about updates affecting your PC's performance? It’s best to install them during times when you’re not using the computer. How recent is your PC?

i7 4790k with DDR3 1866, GTX 750, 1 ssd, 2 hdds. Friends said the 2019 or 2020 updates slowed performance in games, so I won’t upgrade.
