I assembled a fresh gaming PC and overlooked formatting the SSD, causing Windows 10 to boot automatically. Since I lack the original product key, I bought a new license with a valid code. The current copy insists on activation, likely because it isn't an authentic version. My concern is removing Windows 10 completely and replacing it with the new one. A fresh start should allow installing the updated OS, but resetting the PC will erase all data.
Perform a fresh setup of Windows. Microsoft offers a utility to create a bootable USB. You must save your information on the device before installation.
You don’t have to save anything extra since the key information is already saved on your external drive. Just re-download what you need.
I activated it myself, and the Microsoft representative suggested purchasing a new key. However, when I checked the Windows Store, it automatically activated without any issues.
