I own a Linksys CG7500 AC1900 DOCSIS 3.0 24x8 Wi-Fi Cable Modem Router. I'm trying to fix the frequent Wi-Fi drops in my home. My current plan gives 250 Mbps, but I've noticed speeds around 280 Mbps on my phone near the router sometimes. For a medium-sized house with about 2600 sq ft and several devices—printers, phones, laptops, a gaming PC, a Firestick, an Apple TV, and an Alexa Dot—I need something under $140 USD. All except one laptop should work on the 5G band and support 24x8 lanes to ease congestion.

I don’t suggest going all-in at once. When you connect directly to the router at full speed, switching to an access point for managing Wi-Fi should improve performance. You’ll see faster speeds, better stability with MiMo 3x3 or higher, and fewer interruptions. For around $140, you could choose a Unifi AC PRO or a wireless router like the Netgear Nighthawk. Both options would work well.

The problem lies with the combo device that uses the Intel Puma 6 chip, which has known issues reported on DSLreports.com. I suggest using a separate modem and router instead. Avoid Docsis 3.0 32x8 models since they all include this chip. Anything else should work fine.
