Today I set up the ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger with an i7-6700K. I realized I need to reinstall the operating system for my machine to function properly. Which of these choices would work best? - Purchase an SSD and reinstall the OS onto it (if feasible) - Create a full backup of all data from the current HDD, then perform a clean reinstall and transfer files back from the backup - Other suggestions are also welcome. Thank you.

It should work fine. The decision depends on your situation. If you can afford an SSD upgrade, do it. Avoid using programs that store files haphazardly—they won’t locate them since the OS automatically names the drive C:\. Games running Origin or Steam will be accessible without needing to reinstall. You’ll also be able to restore your music, videos, and photos after a fresh OS installation.

It depends on your priorities. Storing your OS on the SSD ensures fast boot times, while keeping files and games on the HDD saves space. Placing everything on the SSD gives you the quickest access but uses more storage. Choose based on what matters most for your setup.

That's your decision. Large SSDs are still quite costly for all your programs and games. If you can afford it, a 240+ or even 480+ SSD will be ideal for heavy software and games. I have a smaller one just for the operating system and essential apps plus user settings. Obviously, it's too big to accommodate anything else.
