Updated motherboard and power supply options available.
I just received a new case and the HP motherboard didn’t fit, so I thought about swapping it out. I’m not planning to upgrade the CPU right now but want solid improvements soon. I might also be moving to a 2070 Super from a friend, so I need enough power—maybe a 30 series. Thanks a lot for your advice. My current setup includes:
- Ryzen 5 2400G GTX 1660Ti – https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-geforce...Id=6330461
- 16 GB RAM – Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z – https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05939208
- 500W power supply (HP model – upgrade needed)
I’m also checking out the Meshify C White – https://www.newegg.com/fractal-design-me...6811352087? Item=N82E16811352087&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFC-RAN-COM
Let me know what you think!
PSU 650W works but operating at higher power levels means you're pushing the limits—think gold or better. For a future 650-750W power supply, either option is acceptable; a fully modular design would be ideal for cable management. iCPU isn't necessary unless your CPU supports integrated graphics. The B550 motherboard is suitable, but ensure it matches your current CPU specs. If you're not ready to upgrade the CPU soon, plan for a CPU and RAM upgrade in about two years with DDR5 support.
Do you have a financial plan in mind? For PSU, consider a 650W model such as the EVGA B5 to give you ample space for both CPU and GPU upgrades. Regarding the motherboard, opt for the B550 to allow room for future CPU improvements. My top picks are the MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk or Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO AC, both offering solid VRMs and strong features.
I recommend checking out the suggested motherboard options. Your question is well thought out, and I'm glad you found the assistance helpful.
You should consider the B450 board right away. The Asus ROG STRIX B450-F and MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX are solid options.
I'm not sure about specific boards, but you can look for ones with high-end GPUs and robust power delivery to handle those specs.
they plan to remove support for the 2400G model using updated boards, and it seems unlikely they’ll locate a compatible board. The only exceptions are the rare 450 models that offered future upgrades, though those won’t meet your needs. This change could also introduce additional problems.
