I've been using the 13900k and now the 14900k since launch, and there haven't been any problems. Most people who mention these models say they're just a minor feature, so I'm wondering if anyone who's tried them has noticed any real benefit.
The simplest option is more straightforward. If the contact frame lacks labels, you can still mark your own. Alternatively, a helpful tutorial will clarify the steps. The same applies to the Kryosheets. I personally use one of these budget models; I initially believed there was a 3-4° variance but now am less certain. Still, I feel confident about it.
I think the CF vs ILM debate isn't that important most of the time. But it's more than just a trick. If I had a "900" CPU, I'd definitely choose one. The inexpensive CFs are actually quite affordable and still perform well, if not better. You might skip the cooler and look at the thermal paste layout—if it seems perfect, great. My setup didn't (maybe). You're likely to have more paste in the middle where it counts. I own this up—I haven't verified the pattern with my CF yet. Edited November 3, 2023 by leclod
I've verified this myself across every release. No problems have arisen, and my 13900k, which has been running since day one, remains fully within specifications—no noticeable distortion. I wondered if it really made a difference enough to warrant purchasing one, but most people I consulted said otherwise.
So maybe the new CF is like the cheapos, you don't need the marks because the frame contacts the motherboard. And you probably got a short tool to tighten with which you can't really overtighten (this is done on purpose). I tighten with my fingers, not with my hand, not much force. (always tighten step by step in a cross pattern) For the Kryosheets, maybe it's easy and you can't really go wrong. Just (clean your hands and) do it. Edited November 3, 2023 by leclod
