During the weekend I chose to upgrade my RX 580 GPU to an RX 6750. I assumed my 450W power supply could suffice. When the new GPU arrived, I eagerly inserted it and was surprised by a no-start message along with a beep code suggesting a power issue. It lit up but didn’t boot. I checked the manual—it required a PSU of at least 650W, which matched what I bought. After installation, the system still beeped, pointing to a power problem. I tested basic boot requirements, verified all cables, but nothing worked. I replaced the old PSU with the new one and it functioned properly. Then I tried swapping the PSU again, keeping the old GPU, but the issue persisted. This was my first attempt at modifying PC components, so I suspect there might be overlooked steps or faulty parts. My RX 580 specs: HP Z400 workstation, Intel XEON CPU W3680 @ 3.33GHz, BIOS version 786G3. On 05-03-2018 no updates were found. MOBO listing shows HP 0B4CH, RAM 24GB. The old GPU is RX 580 series; the new one is RX 6750 XT. The old PSU was original for the PC. The new PSU is Coolermaster MWE Gold W650 v2. Any advice would be invaluable!

I’ve tried it several times before. My MOBO only features a 4-pin CPU port, but the power supply offers an adjustable 8-pin or 4-pin connector. I connected it accordingly. The PSU’s user guide confirms it should function properly.

Checks if the PC starts with the updated PSU and old GPU. If not, it might be due to compatibility issues rather than just the Mobo.

Are you certain the PSU cables were exchanged, considering they’re both modular?

New power supply paired with old GPU works, but it fails right away—fans spin and then shut off instantly. You hear four beeps indicating a power problem. Do you know how to verify if your current Mobo is compatible with ATX? That’s the only info I could find about PSU and Mobo compatibility.

The existing power supply unit isn't designed to be modular.
