Updated Ethernet Cord
I improved my internet speed to 500mbps and connected via a wired cable, achieving 40-45mbs download on Steam. On Wi-Fi I’m getting 70+ Mbps, but they suggested a new cable. I’ve heard that Cat 6+ on a cable is superior for streaming. Since you’re in the UK, let me know if that matters for your setup. I’ve also got an Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E gaming ATX motherboard if you need help with advice.
Cat5e supports speeds up to 1000Mbps and can manage higher rates like 2500Mbps. If your Ethernet cable is faulty, Cat5e will still work well up to 100 meters for 1000Mbps.
Based on what I understand, CAT5 supports speeds from 10 to 100 Mbps, CAT5e ranges from 100 to 1000/2500 Mbps, and CAT6 is designed for 10 Gb networking. Try a different cable just in case it’s damaged, and confirm you’re using a CAT5e connection instead of just CAT5.
The cable would suffice, though spending nearly $24 is a significant overcharge. It's a very simple 1-meter Cat5e network cable. You shouldn't need to spend more than around $7 or £5.50.
Amazon UK CSL Cat 6 from Amazon UK offers a 0.5m Ethernet cable for Gigabit LAN, RJ45-10, supporting 100/1000Mbit speeds. It’s a broadband patch cable compatible with CAT.5, CAT.5e and CAT.7 standards. Available in black. Priced under £8. Cat 7 is also offered.
