Hi guys. My system uses an ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus with the latest BIOS update (version 4301, which includes microcode v. 0x12F via EZ Flash 3). The update went smoothly. After that, I checked with CPU-Z and saw the microcode version listed as 0x3A instead of the expected 0x12F. Is this typical?

Yes, you confirmed the CMOS was cleared after verifying the BIOS flash succeeded.

Thank you for the update. I only used F5 in BIOS to reset it back to default, not to clear the CMOS.

Ensure you are using the latest CPU-Z version after resetting the BIOS to its default configuration.

They (12F, 3A) seem to be bundled, so CPU-Z might only display one. My version shows 12F, but in your BIOS setup it clearly lists 12F as included.

The process you've followed seems correct, but the CPU Microcode and Processor Identification results remain unchanged. It's not uncommon for these values to stay the same even after updates. Consider checking the BIOS settings or consulting the manufacturer's documentation for further troubleshooting steps.

It seems like you're checking if there are any performance concerns. Would you like me to help with that?

I'm not sure if it's safe to install the 14700K given the current BIOS update and the unexpected display of 0x3A.

MSI forums mention that the sequence 0x125→0x129→0x12B→0x12C→0x12F is the standard transition for Rapter Lake, while the Core i5 14500, reportedly a renamed Alder Lake model, follows a different path of 0x32→0x36→0x3A. They confirm this as the normal behavior.
