Update your Windows 7 settings to restore missing network drivers.
I recently changed to Windows 7 due to my budget-friendly hardware. Everything seemed fine until I realized my Wi-Fi wasn’t working. I checked the Device Manager for network drivers, but there was no option listed. Now my laptop is almost useless—I can’t download any drivers and I don’t have internet access either. If anyone has advice, please let me know.
If the laptop is outdated for Windows 10, consider switching to GNU/Linux. Several distros are built for older hardware, such as Lubuntu, which includes drivers ready to use. You won’t have to search for a separate driver CD—just grab the one that came with the machine. If it’s unavailable, check the manufacturer’s site for drivers and download them onto a USB drive. Verify if the laptop has an Ethernet port and test it there.
You might need to install drivers for Windows 7. On Windows 10, the installation was likely handled automatically. Visit your laptop's manufacturer site, enter your model, and check the available drivers. For Intel laptops, go to intel.com and download their assistance tool, which helps recommend the appropriate Intel drivers for your device (CPU, chipset, wireless card if available, onboard LAN, etc.)
When my dad purchased the laptop, it came with Windows 7 built-in. Later, he upgraded it to Windows 10, but because it has 4 GB of RAM, an i5 processor with 2nd generation and 2.3 GHz speed, I thought about changing the operating system since Windows 7 requires significantly more memory. I’m willing to give it a try. Thanks for your assistance!
