Update the operating system migration process
There are both free and premium options, but the free one works well for transferring files to a new drive. You don’t have to buy the paid version for this task. I recently used Macrium Reflect to shift my mother-in-law’s data from a failing HDD to an SSD.
It relies on the drive sizes involved. You can reduce the size of the OS partition on the larger drive so it fits within the destination space. Just ensure the sector count from the start of the source drive to the end of its last partition is under the destination's total. Then you can clone sectors one by one using Macrium Reflect—this option works even if the destination has fewer sectors than the source, which most other tools don’t support. I’ve done this many times and it’s reliable. Your feedback helps clarify things I hadn’t mentioned before.
