I just completed my latest setup using the Gigabyte B650 gaming X-AX v2 and a Ryzen 5 9600X. The system hasn’t been turned on yet, but I noticed the motherboard might need a BIOS update to support the CPU. Everyone seems to recommend updating the BIOS before installing the processor. Is there a way to update the BIOS without taking apart the case? Also, would it be safe to try turning it on now to check if the BIOS is already up to date for my CPU?

It doesn't matter what's installed on your motherboard. Confirm the BIOS matches your computer.

However, if your system doesn<|pad|>'s support, you might not even reach BIOS settings. It still requires a functional and identifiable CPU to access BIOS. Based on the support information I found, the minimum BIOS version that supports 9600x is F30. That release date is noted, but unless you're in a very specific situation—like using outdated hardware—it's likely too late to upgrade while components are installed. I updated my MSI B550M using the BIOS Flashback button while everything remained connected. Apparently, on Gigabyte MB they called it Q-flash Plus. If you're not using the BIOS Flashback feature, it's probably not possible, as the alternative method needs a working CPU recognized by the motherboard. The reviewers seem to have aimed at reducing errors, but so far I've successfully flashed my B550M Mortar twice with all parts installed.

Turned it on and everything looks okay with the BIOS (version f31). I received a message I don’t understand, and the red debug light on my motherboard is on even though the system seems normal.

It shows the board is identifying your CPU, which is not the same as the one they tested at the factory. Press Hit Y to reset, as you don’t have a previous setting to rely on. All good.
