Hello everyone! I purchased a brand new laptop yesterday. After setting it up, Windows Update indicated several security updates were missing, and it installed all except the latest cumulative update. (Uncertain about the KB code.) It either stalled at 100% download or 0% installation. Last night it claimed to finish downloading but then reported an error saying it couldn’t download the update for this user. Since the laptop came new with Windows 11 Home pre-installed, nothing other than the charger was connected, and no hardware changed. I configured Windows in offline mode (I have internet access—250MB down, 26MB up). I attempted system root commands, but the 'ren' command showed access denied. Even after a factory reset three times, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It's hard to say how long the laptop was in the box. You might try starting up via the BIOS and updating it if needed. The issue with the latest Windows update could stem from an outdated BIOS. It's just a guess.

It's a great response, I wasn't aware of that! I checked the MSI website and saw a BIOS update dated July 7th. I plan to install it and check if it resolves the problem.

Confirm factory reset has been completed. For a complete clean, try installing Windows from a USB drive to ensure all data is erased and see the results.

The system would remain locked, and you’d need a fresh key to gain access.

It starts up by capturing the device identifiers, just like Microsoft does.
