Hello everyone, i just posted about my dad's gaming setup. while playing sea of thieves, after 15-30 minutes his pc would suddenly shut down or restart completely without any crash logs. here are his system details: i7 8700, 16gb 2933mhz ram, rtx 3080, corsair rm850x, asus tuf gaming z370 plus, playing on a 65-inch 4k tv. we've tried several fixes - uninstalled and verified game files, updated all gpu and cpu drivers, reinstalled windows, adjusted game settings, upgraded psu from an off-brand chinese unit to this corsair one, and even stress tested it for a few hours. in tm5 extreme1, occt cpu, ram, and gpu stress tests all lasted 30 minutes. sea of thieves is the only game that causes this issue on his pc. he can play other titles like tiny tinas wonderlands and borderlands 3 without problems, including vr games. i'm planning to switch to a different ram kit since the one he's using caused issues in bl3 on another machine. now i'm unsure what might be causing this problem.
Consider lowering the RAM speed to around 2400 or 2666 and check the performance. Officially, only up to 2666 was available for Coffee Lake.
Actually, I shouldn't have tried to lower the clock speed first; I didn't consider that and instead focused on hardware changes. I already replaced the GPU after reading your comment.
Swapping the GPU didn’t resolve the issue; RAM speed was reduced to 2600 and it kept crashing. The GPU change extended playtime slightly before the crash occurred, but the problem remained consistent.
We used a team group T-force Vulcan 2x8GB, 3000MHz system. I also experimented with a Corsair Vengeance LX 2x8GB, 3000MHz model.
never reached over 72°C and that happened around p95. it's running under a 360mm air cooler.
