Update notice from Houston: I'm experiencing a boot-up issue following yesterday's feature update.
The latest update to version 1903 completed successfully last night, and the system powered off without needing additional updates. The pre-welcome screen animation continues to spin for about 30 minutes. Despite a hard restart, it remains unchanged. Consider checking for other pending updates or consulting the support section for further guidance.
I've been there before and figured it out. Eventually I gave up and moved on. Then the annoying part kicked in once I finally logged in—repeated login prompts for about 30 minutes, only to end up back at the login screen again. After that, it worked fine. Still a bit suspicious...
Start in safe mode, remove the latest update, run a file system inspection, perform a system integrity check, and attempt to reinstall the update again.
You've rebooted the system multiple times and cleared the BIOS settings. It's understandable to feel uncertain about what to do next. Whether you continue observing or take further action depends on your goals—just keep in mind that the black hole with orbiting dots might be a sign to investigate further.
The test covers both sfc /scannow and additional cmd checks.
Run chkdsk to inspect the file system, perform a system integrity check with sfc /scannow, and consider DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
That's exactly what I did; before that my wife had the same issue. When I got it, it seemed like it had already restarted several times (she also gave up). I’m not sure how long it took, since I spent time on other things. The good news is the thing wasn’t damaged by the hard restarts, so hopefully with a bit of patience you’ll get it working.
It came to my device last night at approximately 7 PM IST. I'm using an RS5 OS.
