Update issues reported by Windows 10 developers
You've faced multiple problems when attempting to upgrade to this Windows version from 1511. Every time you try, after applying all updates and logging in, a black screen appears with just your cursor. You've checked everything possible but are stuck, repeatedly restoring to your system image to restart the process.
Remove the drive and connect it to another computer as a secondary storage. Safely back up your data. Proceed with a clean installation—it’s the best solution to resolve this issue or similar Windows upgrade problems, ensuring smoother performance moving forward.
Are you checking if it clears and, if not, how long you expect it to stay on the black screen? (I’m sure you’re giving it a bit of time, though some people rush through.) Yes, it can remain there for up to ten minutes before something unusual starts happening in the background.
Unfortunately, I don’t have another device available for this task.
I determined the solution and managed to get it running after a fourth attempt. It turned out I needed to remove eset, old explorer, and the uxstyle I was using for Windows Dark mode.
