Update for UMPC with OpenGL 2.0 support
Hello! I understand that the GPD win is just a concept here—not something meant for real use. I own a Sony Vaio VGN-UX280P UMPC from 2006, which I plan to use for older games and indie titles. The issue is my graphics card (an Intel GMA 950 built into its 945GHz chipset) only supports OpenGL 1.4. My questions are: a) Are there any software solutions available? (From what I’ve heard, none exist) b) Are there mobile CPUs that fit this chipset and also have built-in graphics? c) Can I replace the chipset, like with a GMA 960G? I’m aware it would be very challenging—swapping soldered parts is tough and usually needs BIOS modifications—but this isn’t the kind of practical advice you’re looking for.
Only by fully simulating in software can you achieve realistic performance. It seems the chipset doesn’t allow graphics to be passed through initially. Perhaps with reference diagrams, you could confirm the motherboard layout matches compatibility. Also, both the GMA 945 and GMA 960 would need identical pin counts, and you’d require specialized tools and expertise to swap a high-pin BGA package.
