Update Firmware for Brother Printer
Update Firmware for Brother Printer
Hi everyone
I understand not updating the firmware on my Brother HL-L3230CDW printer is a tough choice—it means spending more on toner compared to cheaper alternatives. Recently I uninstalled the printer and now I’m dealing with driver reinstallation.
The issue is whether there are any additional software updates I should install, but I’m unsure if they come with the firmware. I’ve already set the default driver and Brother iPrint&Scan, and everything seems to function.
Could anyone confirm if the two optional software packages I mentioned are included with the firmware? The only source for the firmware is the Brother website, so I wanted to double-check before proceeding.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.

Hi Seajay
The compatible toner cartridges for this printer are now fully compatible with all firmware updates. The previous versions had an active chip powered by a small battery, which caused issues because the printer would detect voltage differences and ignore them. The newer passive chips have resolved this problem and function perfectly with the latest firmware. I hope this clears things up.
