Hello, I recently installed a comp ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI II with BIOS 12.02, G.SKILL 2x16 DDR5 RAM, F5-6400J3239G16GX2-TZ5RK Intel 14 Gen 14-600K i5, Corsair iLink RGB Titan Corsair NVME, and SK Hynix 1 TB NVMes Corsair Lightning Core 1. I’m using Windows 11 and have checked that the RAM is properly seated. I’m facing issues updating the BIOS. My flash drive works fine when inserted, but it causes a black screen when using EZ Flash or USB. The BIOS boots normally to Windows, though it goes black with both storage devices. When the PC is off, the DRAM indicator lights up orange. Any advice would be appreciated—thanks!

This appears to be a problem with the RAM or the USB device you're using. I'll try it with another USB flash drive. If the issue persists, the RAM might be defective or not compatible with your board. Does the RAM you bought appear on the QVL list for your project?

Sure thing! The info matches what's on the site, so you might want to test a different USB. The black screen issue seems linked to freezing the BIOS after inserting the flash drive.

For a worn-out flash drive, the device might be defective. If it leads to freezing or a black screen upon connection, the drive is likely faulty.

Hey! I saw your update was successful, but the orange light keeps coming on. I noticed I don’t boot when XMP is active, and it stays orange only when XMP is off. No sign of RAM issues, but I’m curious about other possibilities. Any suggestions? Thanks for checking in!

The Dram light indicates an issue, suggesting a possible RAM problem. When the system doesn't post without XMP enabled, it's another strong clue the device may be defective. It's reasonable to go ahead and replace it.
