Update BIOS with an unsupported processor model
Update BIOS with an unsupported processor model
Hello, I own an ASUS B450 Strix-F rev 1.01 with a new 5600X. I’m unsure what BIOS version is installed and haven’t found any guidance on updating it with the 5600X, even though the CPU isn’t supported. Could someone confirm if this is feasible or if I’d need to use an older model like the 1600? Thanks.
The strix B450-F lacks a BIOS flashback option, meaning you must use an older CPU to perform the update. Regarding the update procedure, refer to the BIOS documentation available on the website. You may notice that certain processors are no longer supported, so after installing the appropriate version, the 1600 model might become incompatible.
Unless the BIOS was recently updated from the factory—something I doubt they were—the installation should be placed in the 1600 slot. Make sure to update the BIOS for the 5th generation. It seems all B450 boards can handle the 5th Ryzen, though I shouldn't quote me on that. Just note that my Aorus M supports the 5th gen with the F60e update.
