I’m setting up Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi 5 and need help balancing tasks. I plan to run lighter activities like web browsing, video streaming, and office work on the Pi while keeping the main PC free for heavier tasks such as gaming. I’m also thinking about using the Pi as a backup router with a 5G modem, but I’m unsure if that’s practical. For now, I’ll connect only one keyboard and mouse to the Pi and use a KVM like Barrier on the main PC when needed. I’m not sure if Debian is available for Pi 5 yet, but I want to follow the installation guide carefully. Do you have any suggestions on how to achieve these goals, or should I stick with Home Assistant?

I would give the Pi to HA exclusively... No keyboard, no mouse, no screen. Just install the HA OS and use it solely for that task.

I don't agree, everyone using Linux is considered smart. We're just capable enough to manage basic tasks like switching lights, opening garage doors, and adjusting thermostat dials. This is especially useful when dealing with limitations or special needs.

I have around 20 smart gadgets and I believe my Pi5 can handle more than just basic home assistance.

I'm at 20 now, and I've gone up to 100. It's frustrating when the computer won't start right away because your smart hub is handling something else. You want everything to work smoothly, not have extra devices draining power. The Pi uses very little energy, so putting it solely for this task should improve reliability.

The only intelligent gadgets in my house are three smart TVs, and they're all linked through an Ethernet connection.

I've had three more TVs since they stopped airing 'The Gong Show,' with the exception of the one I borrowed during my recovery from a major car crash.

Rubbish unless you set clear rules. I’ve spoken to over 50 Linux users who installed their systems, but none have a setup like this. Can you explain what you mean by "smart home"?
