In the past few years I've noticed this persistent static coming from my headphones. Initially it appeared on my old PC with HyperX Cloud 2, I also tried using the same model on my laptop but the noise persisted. Recently I upgraded my system — CPU i7-13700k, ASUS Z790A motherboard, Corsair RMA850x PSU — and now when using a Logitech Pro X headset, the static returns only during heavy usage. Turning the volume down on the headset reduces it, but adjusting it up makes it louder. I've searched extensively online for solutions but haven't found a reliable fix yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's common for motherboard sounds to reach the headphone jack, which explains why USB DACs are favored. You should check if your electrical setup is properly grounded or switch to the rear ports on the PC. For laptops, USB DAC is the sole choice.

The HyperX Cloud 2 and Logitech Pro X headsets include a USB DAC. Have you used the USB DACs that came with them before? If not, consider testing them to check for static issues. If you have used them, repeated failure of two different USB DACs in a short period raises concerns about potential hardware problems with your system. Which components remain unchanged since your recent upgrade?

Absolutely, I share your worry about the grounding problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I switched from the USB DAC to the 3.5mm jack version. The static disappeared completely. After hours of gaming with friends, it began showing cracks and pops. I tried uninstalling Realtek, changing bit depth and sample rate, but nothing helped. I tested the headset on other laptops using a 3.5mm jack, and it worked perfectly without any issues. Now, instead of using the back panels, I plug it into the front panel and the problems are gone. Finally, years of audio problems are resolved! PC case is Corsair 5000D.
