Unusually sharp/pointed solder end on motherboard? Need advice!
Sure, I was concerned it might reach the mobile tray in the case, but I think the standoffs are deep enough to prevent that. This is my first time building, so I want to double-check everything and make sure I’m not missing anything. Also, since I haven’t actually touched a mobile before, I wasn’t sure if it should be that sharp or pointed.
Motherboard standoffs need a minimum of 0.25" or 6.4mm according to ATX standards. Most motherboards, graphics cards, and PCBs I’ve seen fit this requirement, so it’s usually unnecessary. Yesterday while adjusting my mouse, the PCB on the back side scraped against my mouse pad because of its sharp edges.
These are quite long feet of SMDs, and honestly, they seem excessive for their purpose. It might still be fine, but it adds unnecessary risk with shorts. Alternatively, the images could be misleading, but overall it looks pretty unsafe!
I didn’t capture perfect shots, here are a few more. I couldn’t find a ruler, but they look a bit smaller than a single gold pin on an iPhone cable.
Not much taller, just a bit shorter or two, so I think I'm fine xD. I'm worried about missing the board and other parts. I managed to get a 2060 model two weeks ago for £366 and need this PC for my courses in September. Plus, I've spent all my money so I don't have any left xD Thanks for your help.
SMDs lack feet. These aren’t SMDs—they’re through-hole parts with visible legs. That’s okay for you.
