Unusually elevated CPU temperatures when the system is not running.
Recently I assembled a new setup using an ASRock Z370 Pro4, an Intel Core i7 8700k (not overclocked), and 16GB of 3000MHz Corsair Vengance DDR4 RAM. Once the machine was up, I installed Open Hardware Monitor to track temperatures and ensure everything stays within safe limits. Today I observed that just one CPU temperature remains above 95°C, even when idle and after a restart, while the rest stay below 40°C. This raises questions—should I worry? Could it be a software issue or something else?
It would have been wise to consider this early on. It seems the problem might have been an open hardware monitor. Appreciate the timely guidance!
I've never come across "Open Hardware Monitor" before. For nearly a decade, I've focused on reviewing top-tier sensors, offering more frequent updates, stronger support, and clearer, more precise readings.
same issue here same motherboard, same processor and same hot core. yet on my system the fans appear to follow the temperatures shown by Open Hardware Monitor since they run nearly all the time, even when idle in Desktop (appears to be true based on your hardware screen shot) (sorry for the misspelling)
