My computer has been running steadily for about six months without any modifications. It operated normally until recently, when I force shut it down and it remained powered on with no screen—only the EZDEBUG CPU indicator stayed illuminated. After a two-hour absence, it still stayed on when I returned. Since then, every time I restart it, the CPU light activates automatically, and there’s no display or life signs except fans increasing and lights turning on. Occasionally it switches between DRAM and CPU indicators. I’ve tried various fixes: changing RAM, swapping the PSU and GPU, updating CMOS, flashing BIOS to newer versions, breadboarding the system, and adjusting memory speeds. Despite these efforts, the problem keeps occurring. I’m not sure if I need to replace the motherboard or CPU, as neither is covered by warranty and I don’t have funds for a new one. My current specs are: Ryzen 5 2600 MSI B450 Tomohawk, up to 16GB RAM, Patriot Viper DDR4 at 2933MHZ, 500W cooler, Master PSU, GTX 980 Founders Edition. Any advice would be invaluable!

500W power supply is quite weak. Have you verified the CMOS battery voltage? These components need replacement and it's unclear how long they've been unused on the new board. As long as it stays above 2.8V out of 3.2V, the BIOS functions normally but may display odd behavior, though it keeps the date and time.

You can test the voltage using a multimeter. Also, since swapping the battery didn’t help, check the voltage with a known working board and confirm it matches. Trying the current battery on another board also worked, so ensure the connections are correct.

You can find multimeters at most electronics shops for around $12 to $20. We’re skipping the battery for now, since we need actual readings. Would you like a better power supply to test with? Cooler Master is a reputable brand, but you’ll need a 750W unit for this setup.

If it's a PSU problem, then it might switch on occasionally. When powered on, you can run stress tests with no stability problems.
