When I launch a new tab in Chrome, the audio becomes much quieter and sounds distorted. It returns to normal when I switch to another tab. This happens regardless of the program playing the audio. I don’t know what might be causing this issue. Please let me know if you can help.

Sorry, I was occupied. The fix is in Windows. When it assumes a mic input during silence, audio output drops by up to 80%. You can turn this off via the control panel → hardware and sound → sound → communication source.
