Yesterday my computer started making unusual buzzing sounds, especially when it first turned on. It gets quieter a bit when I press on the side panel, but it becomes louder again once that's removed. The noise isn’t coming from the fans or coil whine, so it might be related to the hard drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

There’s a mechanical vibration coming from somewhere—possibly a fan or the hard drive. Double-check all your mounting screws are secure. If your case has a spinning drive, look for options to fit it using rubber bushings, which can cut down on vibrations passing through. You might also place rubber chair feet or a non-slip throw rug under the PC to further dampen movement. For extra peace of mind, use CrystalDiskInfo to review the SMART data of your hard drive—though it’s likely fine.

It doesn't resemble coil whine; my thought points to the HDD. Disconnect the HDD entirely and restart the PC to check if the noise disappears. If it persists, continue removing components such as the GPU until you locate the issue.

I modified a few cables on the right-side panel recently, possibly allowing something to contact the HDD and cause vibration. I’ll check that. The screws seem secure, so it’s unlikely that’s the issue. SMART appears normal.

It seems the issue is likely with the HDD or the intake fan, since that's where the noise is most intense. I'll attempt to fix it.
