Unusual slow performance and lag in games on your RTX 3070 Ti with a 7,5800x graphics card
Over the last year my GPU has fluctuated quite a bit. Recently I played Doom with Max settings, RT, and DLSS Quality, maintaining around 120 fps. Now I’m struggling to hit just 13 fps even with 120ms latency. After using DDU for a clean driver update, it works on the first boot but drops back down when I restart. No background apps seem to be causing issues, nor are the drives being stressed excessively. Occasionally the game runs smoothly but then performance declines steadily. The card is operating at normal speeds and power draw, drivers are running between 2-7% max. GPU usage stays near 99% with temperatures around 55°C, while CPU sits at about 55% with 54°C. I’ve checked startup apps and background processes, but nothing resolved the problem. Full specs: RX 3070 Ti, Ryzen 7 5800X, 32GB of 3600MHz RAM, AsRock B550M Steel Legend board, Samsung 970 EVO Plus drive, and an 850W EVGA G+ Gold rated PSU. A performance graph is visible in the top-right corner.
Have you considered a fresh setup of your OS? Further details would assist. Also, the GPU temp appears relatively modest during heavy use. The stated power consumption could be useful for identification and inclusion.
The GPU uses about 142 watts, and updating my operating system might be my final option since I need to save everything beforehand.
This device shows an unusually low power consumption. If it were strictly FPS limited, that could be typical for simpler games, but given the poor performance and minimal power usage along with reported GPU activity, something seems off. You might want to try starting in a different application to check if the issue persists. If you can access another storage device, install Windows there and remove the original drive to test. If the problem continues, it could point to outdated firmware or hardware issues. It’s also worth verifying whether your BIOS is up to date.
I didn't install an older driver and the performance seems okay after restarting my PC twice. If it works again, I might reinstall Windows just as a backup option.
It's curious that an experienced driver remains functional despite ongoing problems with DDU and clean installations. I'm struggling to pinpoint the exact cause beyond what you've already discussed, so I can only assist in diagnosing further if the issue persists.
