Hey, you’ve upgraded to a 4070 with an extra M.2 SSD as boot drive. You’re experiencing sudden crashes while gaming. After installing the graphics card, the whole system would briefly shut down and then restart quickly to the lock screen. Games stop just like when you press Alt + F4. You’re using a fresh Windows install with all updates and drivers up to date. No clear pattern so far—sometimes crashes happen one after another, other times you play hours without issues. Temperatures are normal, and crashes don’t occur during heavy workloads. Your concern is the power supply. You have a Ryzen 7 3700X and an RTX 4070, but only a 550W PSU from Corsair. Your usage stats show the CPU uses about 60W under load, GPU around 150-160W, plus fans and other loads. You’re worried if power spikes are causing the issues, if it’s software-related, or if the GPU itself is faulty.

It refers to a particular Corsair PSU model. You should download the drivers from the official Corsair website or the manufacturer’s support portal. Avoid using the Windows update tool for this purpose.

It's a CX550M bought new 4 years ago. The drivers are installed from Nvidia Experience app, only the windows updates are from windows itself.

It requires only eight pins and doesn’t demand much power.

The CX-M series from 2020-2021, particularly the 550W and 650W models, experienced problems with power delivery. If you can, consider using a different power supply with slightly more capacity or better quality. I’m fairly sure the issue is related to power, so testing it now would be the next step. For the PSU, a minimum of 600W is recommended for a 4070 system. Make sure you choose a reputable brand and model. If you need recommendations on good power supplies or want to verify your current ones, refer to The Cultist PSU Tier List.

I considered switching to a 750/850W Seasonic GX Focus to address any issues. I aimed to avoid an upgrade and save money on a 1440p monitor, but I realized it’s better to be cautious and protect my components. Thanks!

Identified the problem. RAM performance was unstable. Reduced clock speed by 200MHz, and stability returned.
