I've been using this PC for about six years now. It's had some occasional problems here and there, but they all got resolved. Recently, I've experienced some strange internet issues that are really hard to fix. Even after a clean reinstall of Windows, it hasn't improved things much. A VPN seems to help—like the connection suddenly stops and then restarts. The Wi-Fi in the house works perfectly, so it must be my PC connected via Ethernet that's affected. Browsing the web runs fine, games work, but everything else is a bit off. I've tried flushing the DNS, changing the cable, updating drivers, and even reinstalling Windows, but nothing seems to help. My ISP is Verizon FiOS. I'm trying to figure out what's going on and wondering if my Ethernet port might be the issue.

The issue seems to be exactly what you believe it is, something that can be resolved using a LAN PCI card without high costs. However, this doesn't seem very probable.

It might be another component like the CPU, RAM, or GPU.

I think the issue might be more related to software than hardware. Router settings could be the cause. It seems reasonable to look into some software that could trigger problems when many torrents are used. You might want to stop them temporarily and resume after sleeping. Also, contact your internet provider for assistance—they should be able to help diagnose whether it's a PC issue or something else. Have you tried using different browsers like Firefox or Brave?

I've used Firefox and Edge, but not Brave. It seems like the issue might be related to my internet service provider. My download speeds are around 800, while uploads are only 0.35. With a VPN, the numbers improve significantly. My phone speeds are also low—500 download and 75 upload.

Avoid using a VPN during speed tests since it may alter outcomes. Try contacting your internet service provider—they should resolve the issue or explain possible causes if it’s not their fault. Then share what occurred.

This advice comes from understanding how internet speed works with a VPN. Your data travels through a server located elsewhere, which can slow things down if that server is busy or overloaded. It’s important to know your current VPN provider and the destination you’re trying to reach. Also, check if your connection is stable via Ethernet directly to the device—otherwise, the extra routing adds latency.
