I've been facing unusual internet issues lately, and things have worsened recently. Occasionally, my connection drops unexpectedly during tasks like gaming, chatting in Discord, or streaming. The drop usually lasts 2 to 5 minutes and happens at least ten times daily. My setup uses a wired Ethernet connection directly from the router to my PC. I'm on a plan offering 600 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, which works fine most of the time except during these outages. During these events, speed tests show much slower speeds—around 10-15 Mbps download and under 10 Mbps upload. Interestingly, when I tested another PC on the same wired Ethernet, the results matched my current plan, but my own device still reports these low numbers. I've reached out to my ISP several times without resolution, and they're proposing a technician visit in about a week. I'm unsure if the problem lies with them or my setup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: Switching to Wi-Fi hasn't fixed the issue either.

It seems the problem likely comes from your own machine. Your internet service provider probably can't assist with this. Begin by reinstalling or updating your network drivers. If that doesn’t help, try using another network card and observe if the issue changes. Should neither work, consider booting a different operating system—like a new Windows install on another drive or Ubuntu—to determine if the error persists. Eventually, you might need to reinstall Windows or replace the hardware.

I don’t have any software installed, but I can help you check if such tools are available and how to use them.

I don't have any extra storage to use for booting, and the only antivirus I'm using is Windows Defender. Thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately, I don't have any backup drives available to install. I attempted to reinstall my drivers—seeing if that would help. If nothing else works, I'll likely try reinstalling Windows, as it's about time.

Another reason for slow or strange speeds could be the quality of your cable connecting the PC to the router. For a fixed setup, this is less likely since cables don’t move much. However, if you relocate the router or use a laptop, a damaged or stressed connection might cause issues like these. It’s always a good idea to swap it out just in case.
