On the left upper corner of your game window, The Ball displays a status line: PHYSX - CPU (with an X in green and "cpu" also highlighted in green). This behavior hasn’t appeared before on any PC. Do you know if a specific program or utility might be responsible for this?

It's an feature available in the Nvidia control panel, activated by mistake since it was left off by default. Choose "Configure Surround, Physx" on the left side. On the screen for those settings, pick "3D Settings" from the top row, between "Desktop" and "Help". Disable the only option listed for "Show Physx Visual Indicator". Also, verify in the actual Physx options that it's set to Auto, not CPU. Only very old games use CPU Physx, so you won't see those effects in most modern titles.

The decision to disable the indicator was found in "Configure Surround, PhysX." I checked the help resources but it wasn't listed in a pull-down menu. Nvidia could improve the interface.

Some people actually enjoy a GPU with extra features and software that actually works.
