Unusual (possibly incorrect) malware reports
I’ve rarely encountered anything like this before. Over the last few months I’ve relied on Edge as my browser, since Firefox was slow and consumed too many CPU resources. Recently, CPU usage jumped to 100% unexpectedly. After the May updates, I wasn’t sure if that was a problem because I hadn’t noticed it before. I ran a full system scan using Microsoft AV, which had three hard drives plus an NVME OS drive. Defender didn’t detect any threats during its routine checks. The scan returned a positive result for Trojan Win 32 Vigorf.A, marked as severe. I quarantined the file and tried to understand what triggered it. As someone who’s very careful, I avoid suspicious websites and unknown attachments. The infection appeared in an Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 install file on my data drive. I haven’t used Dreamweaver in years, and it wasn’t installed on my current OS drive. It’s possible this was a false positive. From what I see, the file predated the virus, so deleting it should have resolved the issue. After restarting, Edge is now functioning normally.
