Unusual performance issues with the Ryzen 9 5900X
Hey, I recently swapped in the Ryzen 9 5900X to swap out my i9-10850KA and installed a new motherboard. When I open the BIOS, it shows the CPU at -1°C. The voltage readings look off: around 4V on the 3.3V rail, 10V on the 5V rail, and 24V on the 12V rail. The CPU reports running at 2.04V in ASUS Armoury Crate. I’m really worried about this. When I load Cinebench R23 under full stress, it hits 4.2GHz with a score of 16230—slightly lower than a Threadripper 1950X. It’s running at about 70°C with the Noctua NH-D15 and NT-H1 paste.
Windows reinstallation can sometimes cause unusual voltage readings, which usually aren't a big concern unless you're using the drives. Without a SATA drive in use, things look fine. The CPU voltage seems off—could be an auto power on issue. Your Cinebench score is roughly 4000 points below average.
I own six SATA drives, including two that are combined in Windows.
Update the BIOS to version 2802, which was released around the 5000 series launch. Since then, many fixes have been added for those CPUs. It’s not advised to install the newest chipset driver on an older BIOS version; AMD specifically warns users to update the BIOS first before changing the driver.
