Hello everyone, I'm looking into some unusual behavior with my PC. After launching Windows and opening a game in Steam or Cinebench R20, it often takes 5 to 15 seconds for the loading splash to appear. When I close the app and reload it, the process seems almost instantaneous. The delay only appears at startup, not after hours of use. I suspect it might be related to the RAM still holding some data, but even with extended sessions, the reload feels immediate. The only noticeable difference is when the BIOS defaults—then a slight delay of a couple seconds appears. My system specs are: Intel i7-3700X, M.2 NVMe SSD (500GB), default BIOS, XFX RX 5600X GPU, Samsung Evo 240GB SSD, and an OC CPU. Any insights would be appreciated.

It usually occurs immediately after powering on the PC or when loading the game/app for the first time after a long boot. If it happens right away, it suggests background processes are running while Windows initializes.

Even after a long boot time, I can power on the PC and wait up to an hour before noticing the delay. Once the game or app starts loading, the lag disappears. It seems unrelated to any specific app—this issue appears with games, other apps, and benchmarks like Cinebench R20, while Cinebench R15 loads instantly.

The main variation I notice is the apps that slow down mainly on my M.2 storage, while the older Samsung Evo SATA drive works fine and the mechanical drive behaves as expected.

It seems uncertain how altering the drive position would affect performance. I’m curious, would switching it to another M.2 port make a difference? From what I know, the second port connects via the chipset, while the other goes through the CPU—though for a storage or gaming drive this might not be significant.
