The noise I experienced resembles what I sometimes hear in my setup with several hard drives, and when it occurs, it seems to originate from those drives. It might indicate worn drive heads. Unplug the hard drives after turning off the system and run the computer without them to check if the sound disappears. This doesn't confirm a power issue if the power supply works fine.
