Hello! This problem has been puzzling me, and it seems my internet connection suddenly halves whenever I use an app that needs it, like online games. I've tried a lot of troubleshooting steps—checked with my ISP, Comcast Business, did some work on the line, but now I'm not sure if it's their issue anymore. I have two other laptops: one connected via Ethernet and another with full-speed internet. On the Ethernet-connected laptop, I get the expected speed, but opening a small app causes the same behavior as my desktop. It’s still unclear what’s happening. Since I’m directly linked to the modem, I’m wondering if it’s the modem itself that’s causing the problem. Someone could help clarify. Below are the actions I’ve taken so far. Please let me know what you think. Thank you!

Confirm if the game is loading quietly while you perform the speed check. Are there other programs active in the background (like Windows Update or torrents) or is another device connected to the same network using the internet? What prompted you to run this test? What were your previous experiences?

This a fresh install, and now days old. It was just a random thing, I decided to do a speed test with a unspecific game minimized and noticed the speed, but it doesn't need to be a game, for example, discord can cause it as well. The independent router has been turned off, and I have turned off all router functions in the modem, even enabled bridge mode.

Are there any issues with your games or Discord? Is the connection slow? What type of modem are you using? Try restarting it. You don’t need to turn on bridge mode if you’ve removed the router. Activating bridge mode in your combo unit turns it into a basic modem, passing routing and NAT duties to another device.

The device functions as a router, modem, and VoIP all in one from Comcast. I attempted to enable bridge mode, which is the default setting. There are no gaming issues or high latency reported.
