Hello, I'm experiencing some unusual Ethernet issues on Windows 10. My one gigabit connection works fine, while the other desktop gets full speed. The main desktop sometimes drops to 150 or 180 Mbps. I've changed cables and ports, tried different laptops, and even installed Mint on a flash drive to test. It's not my hardware. I've also reinstalled Intel drivers without success. What could be causing this?

What version of Windows is installed? Previous network problems were only fixed with a complete Windows reinstall. Recently, I reinstalled on my laptop that had bandwidth and connection issues. Even adjusting IP settings and drivers didn’t help, but everything worked afterward. You might try clearing the DNS cache and resetting the TCP/IP stack, though it’s unlikely to resolve the problem.

I'm using version 1903, just updated two hours ago while trying to solve this issue. I plan to clean my DNS settings and restart the TCP/IP stack, but unfortunately I'm not optimistic. I really don't want to reinstall Windows either.

It seemed to happen only after the update. You might want to switch to versions 1909 or 2004, or test a previous driver for your network card to check if the problem is new.

It occurred after I relocated. Identical router and switch were used. Interestingly, it allows two simultaneous connections at full speed—though I’m not certain this has any significance.

Mmm, not quite. Consider disabling windows auto-tuning: (Elevated command prompt) netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled You might re-activate it if it worsens or doesn't help: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal Also, experiment with enabling Jumbo Frames at different MTU sizes on the NIC (Network connections > Properties > Configure).

Unfortunately, the issue hasn't improved. I attempted a transfer between my server and main machine, which gave me full 1000 Mbps. It seems the problem isn't with the cable or hardware. After checking speedtest, I got around 250 Mbps instead of the expected 180, but it's still not at full speed. The situation is confusing. At this stage, switching to Linux might be a good idea.

You might consider using an extra drive or partition and trying a fresh Windows setup to see if performance improves. There’s limited advice beyond that, as I’ve struggled to fix problems without a full reinstall.
