Minecraft performs better on my PC with the built-in graphics than with dedicated cards. I've tried this many times using Java in the NVIDIA Control Panel. My current machine has an i7 6700hq with HD 530, a GTX 960m, and 16GB RAM. On an older setup with a GT 720 i7, I achieved over 200 FPS at full settings. My CPU specs are i7 4790, which is likely more than twice as powerful as my current one. I've adjusted power settings to performance mode, used JVM arguments, and changed AA and V-Sync. NVIDIA settings show the GPU throttles to under 3 GHz, but it barely runs. Integrated graphics work only at low usage levels (50-80%) and refuse to handle shaders or texture packs. Monitoring suggests memory or cache limits. GPU stats are inconsistent, usually around 10-15 FPS even with distance settings. If shaders aren't used, it's fine, but it's frustrating not being able to utilize the hardware.
Do you play the game while it's plugged in? You won't notice a big difference in speed compared to when it's charging.
Yes, you're right. It performs significantly worse on battery life.
Interesting. I decided to try it out—it’s definitely not top-notch. Edit—really surprised myself that it functioned. Removed GeForce Experience, reconfigured the Control Panel to use a dedicated GPU, and suddenly I was seeing 60fps with just 10% usage. What a game-changer!
