I just installed a new setup and it's causing some strange issues. When I power on in BIOS, only two of the four RAM slots appear to work at once. Since I run computer tasks, I have many DDR4 modules. Normally, if all four slots are active, the third and fourth should show up. But when I place RAM in slots one and three, just one slot appears. If I put it in slots three and four, it sometimes boots, other times it doesn't, but only one stick works at a time. I've tried using two confirmed working sticks and moved them around—still the same pattern. I replaced the CPU and checked for bent pins; none were found. I also adjusted the mounting pressure slightly and updated the BIOS to version 15c, yet the problem persists. I've built many computers before and haven't encountered this before. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm guessing the board might be faulty or the memory controller on my chip is defective, but I'm not sure. Both components are brand new and unused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated—I'm really stuck! Thanks!
When RAM sticks from different brands aren't compatible, it's usually not a big concern anymore, though DDR2 was often affected. A more common cause is a faulty motherboard. If you have another motherboard or PC available to test, you can check the compatibility and return it for replacement if needed.
Slots 1 and 2 function correctly, yet 3 and 4 fail. That means dual channel isn't possible. I might have mentioned missing pins instead.
You might be experiencing problems with your CPU or motherboard. Try swapping in another CPU to check if the issue continues. If it doesn’t work, your motherboard could be faulty.
