Hello I just purchased a new PC. When playing games, I noticed frequent FPS drops, around 5-4 frames per second for a short time before returning to normal. This occurs every 20 seconds. Anyone has suggestions on how to resolve this issue? My system details are: CPU Intel Core i5-9600K 3.7 GHz, GPU GTX 1660 ti, motherboard Gigabyte Z390 M, 16 GB DDR4 RAM at 2666 MHz, AEROCOOL KCAS-500 500W power supply, Seagate BarraCuda 2TB HDD with 7200RPM and 256MB cache, and an Adata XPG SX8200 PRO SSD 256GB. I'm using Windows 64-bit Home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, thank you for reaching out. Could you let us know which games you were using? Also, are there any other applications running? And do you see the task manager indicating you're at maximum performance?

Have you verified the thermals? Also, please check and reinstall the drivers. Update the BIOS. Ensure you're not relying on the iGPU.

I was playing Subnautica, Ark Survival Evolved, Dark Souls 3 and Warframe. Steam, Discord MSI Afterburner and Rivatuner were running in the background, and I didn’t notice anything unusual on MSI Afterburner or in the Task Manager during drops, even though I didn’t max out any settings. I thought lowering graphics would help, but it didn’t.

Regarding CPU temperatures, the 9600K tends to run quite warm and consumes a lot of power.

I have strong cooling performance, but my CPU has trouble exceeding 65°C as shown by MSI Afterburner. The temperature drops occur even when the CPU reaches 53°C.

I have identical CPU performance and no noticeable FPS drops under 70, so it doesn’t seem to be a CPU issue. Have you attempted launching the game as an administrator?
