I've noticed a significant drop in FPS lately, especially in GTA where performance drops from around 60 to 20 FPS. My GTX 1060 isn't overclocked, I have the newest drivers, and my settings are set properly. I'm puzzled as to why these severe drops started occurring. It's curious that the issues begin after about 15 minutes of gameplay. I've checked the Task Manager for any potential causes but haven't found anything. Also, when I restart my PC, the game runs smoothly for roughly 15 minutes as previously reported.

Do you have any AA in GTA besides the Mirror and Water AA? Just turn the rest off. I experienced similar issues, but my PC is great for gaming. Those FPS drops happened whenever I flew over the grassy hills past the city. After turning AA off, I haven't had that problem again.

Continue refining those "best" configurations. Have you attempted disabling vsync?

I also attempted to disable AA, but there was no improvement. Maybe I should open a support ticket with NVIDIA.

Have you experimented with reduced configurations? FPS decreases significantly? If not, adjust your ideal settings and gradually enable or disable individual options. It’s similar to managing multiple mods where one causes instability—switch them one at a time.

I resolved the issue by updating the driver and rebooting the system.
