Good morning, everyone. I just completed a PC build yesterday and it worked fine for my initial setup. Now I’m facing a problem where, even when using the GPU (like playing games), the system sometimes freezes completely and becomes unresponsive, no matter which operating system I’m using—Windows or Linux. I suspect this is related to hardware, possibly involving the graphics cards or BIOS settings. It doesn’t occur under heavy synthetic CPU stress like infinite loop scripts, so it’s likely a chip or firmware issue. I also don’t think it’s due to temporary storage problems, as booting into BIOS after an incident shows normal temperatures. Anyone else encountering similar issues with AMD integrated graphics? The machine specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, 3.9 GHz, 6-core processor, Asus PRIME B550-PLUS ATX AM4 board, Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB DDR4-3200, Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2, Corsair RMx 750W power supply, TP-Link Archer TX50E Wi-Fi adapter.
I've already gone through the full process of resetting and swapping out the CPU and RAM, but it didn’t work. Unfortunately, the memory testing software has a poor reputation. It frequently misses errors. The performance is so poor it often restarts itself multiple times. A free tool called memtest86 is seen as more dependable, especially when executed thoroughly more than once. However, it’s not very quick.
Support Bombastinator, memtest86 performs better. A few thoughts... Have you considered a BIOS update? If you're using XMP/DOCP, try disabling them. Are your memory modules listed on the motherboard manufacturer's website? If not, verify the timings or adjust them manually. (Unlikely but possible that sub-timings could cause issues) Monitor temperatures in real time using tools like HWMonitor or HWInfo—look at VRM and GPU temps, not just CPU. It's unlikely, but testing with a different PSU might help. Consider turning off features like onboard audio and LAN ports, plus any extra connections. Essentially, try to isolate the CPU/GPU to pinpoint the issue. I'd prefer you don't have to return the CPU for repairs later because it was a motherboard fault.
