Another issue appeared with my Asus Rog Strix G713QM recently. Experienced problems right from the start. Installed default drivers and noticed the main issues started during a Windows update. The whole system felt slow and unresponsive—files explorer wouldn’t open or close properly, menus in Chrome worked, but Spotify and other apps had glitches. After playing Hell, recording with NVIDIA Live Record (alt+z) brought up the videos folder and launched the video file. Again, severe lag followed. The problem seems to happen after using a heavy app or game, with CPU and GPU temps near 80 in ASUS Armoury Turbo mode. Game runs normally, but the Windows instability is bothersome. It feels like the computer needs a break between tasks, which is unusual. I’m trying to locate processor controls in the default ASUS ROG BIOS, but haven’t found a way yet.
In the BIOS navigate to the Advanced section, scroll down to AMD CBS, then access Global C-state Controls. This pattern has occurred recently whenever I play a game with multiple clients open—either after roughly an hour of gaming or when I switch activities like watching YouTube or working on spreadsheets. Upon returning, Windows freezes completely and displays a screenshot, necessitating a hard reboot. My hardware includes a Ryzen 7 5800X Asus ROG Strix B550-F with a 16GB 3000Mhz G.SKILL Trident Z RGB, paired with an Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080TI, an EVGA SuperNOVA 750GA, and a Samsung 970 Evo 1TB for OS and games. I also use a Samsung 860 Evo 1TB for gaming, plus a SanDisk Ultra 3D 250GB. The C-state control in BIOS is currently disabled; I’ll test the system to confirm the issue remains and then share updated results. Because your laptop's BIOS is present, you may need to follow what @panCC recommended. The problem lies in the CPU receiving insufficient voltage during certain moments; adjusting the core voltage to approximately 1.35 to 1.40 could help resolve the issue.

Applications still function but new ones won't open. After about a minute, the system crashes and only the reset button works. I ran CPU stress tests on different cores and all passed. I've reinstalled Windows several times without success. Also followed all steps from this thread: disable global C state, fixed voltage for CPU drivers from Asus instead of AMD, but nothing resolved it. Now I'm using an older Corsair memory kit with XMP enabled, and it's been stable for 24 hours. I've never had a crash like this before. I tried the new kit without DOCP, and it worked. The updated memory is listed in QVL on G-Skill but not on the Asus page. Of course, Asus can't test every kit, but if it's approved it should be fine. On other sites I've read a lot about XMP profiles not applying correct timings/voltage in BIOS, yet both setups seem to work. Both kits require 1.35 volts and are getting that. @Twiistaah Are you testing without DOCP enabled? I'm sending back my new kit if this is the issue.
Still searching for a resolution. I plan to adjust manual highest SPL/SPPT in the ASUS Armory window program. No options to tweak voltages or C-States. No reply from ASUS yet. It could be memory problems—sometimes half my RAM is used as standby. Also, stuttering appears when using Chrome, downloading games, or watching YouTube videos. High memory consumption and the mouse pointer freezes. Maybe a full system reset and turning off hibernation would help, since standby memory might not clear properly. I found a workaround for that in this post—though I don’t remember any stuttering in games.
Same issue here with the Ryzen 7 5800X. What I do to fix it: use AMD Cool & Quiet, turn off C-State Control, disable Power Supply Idle control, and set it to Typical. I also switch the PCI Express power management link off. It helps because I also hear buzzing from speakers during freezes now. Freezes are rare but still happen, mostly in browsers.
Hey everyone, here’s what happened: The problem was related to memory. I’ve switched to my older DDR4-3000 kit for about two weeks and haven’t experienced the issue mentioned in the TS. Asus reported they’re seeing this with various memory modules, which explains why their QVL doesn’t list it. On the G-Skill QVL, the board is referenced, which feels a bit confusing. Was there an issue with my kit or is the support really limited? I’m not sure... but my new system is finally rock solid, so I’m happy!
Update on my situation. Turning off AMD graphics in manage devices and then turning it back on seemed to resolve the issue. The problem didn’t appear again this week. The main concern was with Doom Eternal, which immediately throws an error when launched, claiming no graphic driver is available. I put my G713 laptop to sleep; shutting it down requires restarting the cycle—right-click My Computer in File Explorer, manage, disable AMD graphics, then re-enable it. It worked well after a full hour of play. Playing loudly for over an hour, Spotify playing, 20 Chrome tabs open, no graphics glitches, no lag, and smooth video playback afterward. No special drivers needed, no system reinstall required. The BIOS on these machines doesn’t allow much customization. Disabling the OC didn’t help—what controls it is Asus Armory Crate software. Everything is fine now, hope this helps. Setting Nvidia as default graphics for all apps didn’t fix it; only re-enabling AMD worked.
Update 16 of May: I tried to replicate the issue. It seems Windows prioritizes integrated over dedicated graphics drivers. I thought it was a RAM problem and reached out to ASUS, but they just said “return to shop” with no accountability. When I turned off Nvidia drivers and back on, Doom Eternal still shows an error about the graphics adapter not being detected. Performance drops after long sessions—games take 10 seconds or more for audio before video starts. After shutting down, the cycle is remembered, so it doesn’t need to be repeated. This fix works only if I restart the laptop properly, possibly after a full shutdown.
P.S. I recently played a long session in Noita with heavy storage and CPU usage. The game ran low due to background processes and replay features. My desktop became unusable after quitting, which might be related to RAM or other factors.
