Hey, I keep finding strange videos in my watch history on YouTube that I did not watch. Often they have a lot of views and not many comments. Here is what I did, but it did not stop. 1. Logged out of all devices. 2. Changed the password to a long one that only a computer could love. 3. Set up passkeys and two factor authentication. 4. Deleted almost all extensions from Chrome in fear they might be the reason. I attached a photo of two videos that show up that I did not watch. I looked it up and Google tells me this is watched by an android device... But that should only be my pixel 8 and I did not watch it there. So what can I do. Yt support isn't helping tbh.

Are you allowing autoplay? When you finish a video, another will start automatically and appear in your watch history. Sometimes, just hovering over a thumbnail for a brief moment shows the preview and adds it to your history. Opening the Shorts page, even accidentally and quickly closing it, will still record the video that was playing. These are ways content might show up you didn’t intentionally watch. Still, securing your account was the correct action you took.

YT records any video that plays in a preview or thumbnail format into your history. That decision seems odd, though.

The only alternative to hovering over thumbnails is if your account was compromised, but you confirmed you updated your password so I would disable autoplay.

Agreed, it also makes the algorithm think you like a certain type of content that you don't watch, because it's in your history... just because you hovered over a thumbnail?

I noticed you're watching videos while a long-form content plays and didn't switch channels. Autoplay is enabled, but I don't see many Russian Rocket League recommendations, which are often mixed in. I've never experienced autoplay like this before and haven't received similar suggestions. Also, these aren't short clips—they're around three hours long.

It's possible your account was accessed by someone else. You might still be logged in on another device, such as a family member's account or an old smart TV you owned. The main advice is to update your password and keep an eye on account activity, including device logins and watch history. Reviewing your YouTube comments could also help, as you might have missed any posts. Running a virus scan is recommended since malware often steals login details and session tokens—consider changing your password again if needed.

Control your Google account safety (including YouTube). A linked device like one you used at an AirBnB might remain active or a service could be breached—this must be noted. Avoid sharing access to services unless you're certain and necessary. Visit https://myaccount.google.com/security For devices -> Manage your devices. Log out from all devices you don<|pad|> or don’t recognize Go again to https://myaccount.google.com/security Your connections to third-party apps & services -> View all connections Sign out from any you don’t use often OR don’t recognize

I didn’t review my YT history—there’s nothing unusual about it! I suggest performing a complete malwarebytes scan on all storage drives plus a rootkit check.

After logging out of all devices, I reset my password and was only accessible via my phone. Yesterday evening it didn’t happen, but today it did again. I see videos that don’t belong. My phone model is a pixel 8 and it shows two active sessions. Can you suggest any steps or virus checks for my phone?
