Unusual clicking sound coming from the recently installed computer.
Before you think I'm crazy, I just wrapped up setting up my new mini ITX system. Everything functions perfectly. Yet, for some odd reason, when I'm on my desktop it makes a faint ticking sound like something is hitting a fan. But in a game tab, that noise vanishes completely from my PC. I can press alt+tab and the ticking disappears whenever I switch into a game. After testing all the fans, I’m convinced it’s not my PSU fan, case fans, CPU fans, or GPU fans causing the issue. I just want to know why this persistent ticking keeps happening. My build details: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3bv9pH
Turn off the device by disconnecting the bomb. Check your ear near the power supply—it might be the source of the noise.
Having a recording would be helpful, actually. It often simplifies the process of identifying options.
The issue isn't with the PSU, the noise remains even when the PSU fan is off. It's too faint for any recording gear to detect.
Removing the side panel reveals the possibility of placing your ear near the PC to locate the sound. PSU units may produce noise independently of the fan, while HDDs can make noise too, especially if there’s air in the loop. Liquid AIOs tend to make noise when the pump fails or the system is clogged. Since you don’t have any of these components, it seems unusual.
