Chrome has been acting strangely recently. It often jumps to random sites with the same name as the page you were on. I’m puzzled about what’s causing this. I’ve installed some extensions, including Adgaurd, which seems reliable, and others that have previously caused problems. My browser is up to date, and I’ve reset cookies and settings, yet the issue persists. It seems to be targeting the same websites again. Any suggestions?

Use Malewarebytes for a complete scan—you might already be infected. I’ve stopped using Chrome due to security concerns and other issues. I switched to Firefox a long time ago, and I recommend you do the same. There’s nothing in Chrome you’ll regret, and Firefox uses less resources.

Consider restoring Google Chrome. I visited r.linksprf.com and discovered this information.

That’s why I rely on Adguard to block all Google trackers and others (when enabled), and I receive detailed reports about them, which is really helpful. I’m currently quite comfortable using Chrome, lmao.

Start by turning off all extensions and observe whether the issue resolves. It seems to be a form of adware.

Yep, you're right after scanning my system, it has found a a lot of adware. I've just realised that it is a different hard drive that's quite old and is infected What is the best action going forward? I went through and removed the adware and other issues and now formatting the infected drive then rescanning

It doesn't look like the adware on that disk is responsible for the issue (unless you're opening your browser from there), but it's still a wise move to investigate further.

Just a quick note: I believe the adware has wiped out the drive. (The only admin here is me) It’s unclear if removing it is a good move—destroying it might be necessary either way, but it doesn’t matter to me at all.

It seems quite likely it’s beyond saving. If it was once thriving, modern scanning could have caused its collapse. You might want to reformat it for clarity. This isn’t related to any playful browser behavior.
